Do you know Beverly? She’s a little soda from Italy that visitor’s at the World of Coke in Atlanta, Georgia always find a bit brash and….well…not tasty. But I have skipped ahead so let’s go back. Downtown Atlanta has several great places for families to see, and the other day we spent the afternoon touring The Georgia Aquarium and The World of Coke, which are right next door to each other. The brand new Center For Civil and Human Rights just opened the other day as well and news crews were all there for the special night of events that were being set up on the lawn for the Grand Opening!
Our first stop was the Aquarium. Holy Cow! This place is huge, folks. It features more animals than any other aquarium in more than 10 million gallons of water. That’s a lot of water. My favorite creatures include the leafy sea dragons…
This massive Star Fish
The Sea Anemones…
Hubby loved the 2 whale sharks, which are pretty impressive. Wouldn’t wanna meet them in the water. Of course, kids can pet the sting rays and crawl through tunnels while penguins swim around them. There are so many fun things to see and a nice food court when you get hungry or just want to sit down a moment. Oh, yeah!!! I forgot about the Dolphin Show! Let me just say, the great thing about it is the fact that you are not sitting out in the hot sun like when you go to Sea World. The Georgia Aquarium has a massive indoor dolphin theater stadium and the show includes singing, fancy lights and water canons and…beautifully talented sweet dolphins doing stunts with the entertainers. You also have the option of purchasing a City Pass which is a package deal for a bunch of museums and the zoo! So, when we finished with the fish, we walked over to The World of Coke. What a fun tour this is! Upon entering you get to hear a little bit of the history of Coca Cola and watch a short film and then you are set free to roam the various exhibits. Exhibits that show the bottling process and the chemistry of it all and interactive buttons and levers for pushing and pulling and stepping on…Then, at the end you get to taste every kind of Soda Pop you can imagine from Countries all over the world. Personally, I think the gingery flavored fizzy one from Africa is good!
Coming up next on Snipping The Thyme…We will be visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Bavarian town of Helen, Georgia. That is going to be fabulous! Don’t worry, I will be sure to share my funnel cake.
