Project Organization: Teen Makeup

Makeup Mess

Today we wish to organize our makeup and start fresh! So I am going to tackle Charlotte’s makeup with her! (literally) Ok, we are not all 15, but let’s discuss basic cosmetics organization and cleaning for us ladies of all ages. Because let’s face it…Whether you are in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond in those golden years living in Sun City West, you can still be organized and look fabulous.

Once upon a time long, long ago, when I did television commercials and was the age of my daughters, I learned that hygiene and organization are connected.   Now, with Charlotte in Ballet and Savannah living in a College Dorm I am constantly preaching to the girls about techniques to keep things….CLEAN  Over the years I have helped backstage for numerous shows and productions, witnessing a wide spectrum of organizing techniques. Everything from the most organized to the least organized.  It’s somewhat like working at a restaurant (another job I am familiar with) You have clean restaurants where you could probably eat off the floor and then there are the dives that you wonder…How is this open?? Many professional makeup artists use a Tackle Box, which I find handy.  Depending on your budget etc. you can find the appropriate tackle box.  Today, we are dealing with a teenager so we don’t need to get all crazy and spend tons of money just to get organized. This one cost < $20.00.

So, let’s approach this like we do with any other mess:

Dump everything out

Sort into categories (like eyes, lips, cheeks, etc.)

Now, decide which items are old and nasty or just plain done. Throw Away…At this point you will begin hearing requests from your teenager for a trip to the drug store. Uh-oh

Next, wipe things down and Wash your brushes with warm soapy water.  This should be done often… And if you are sharing makeup (like girls tend to do) see my tips below.

This is the fun part…

Tips for Sharing:

  • Use Disposable Sponges and Applicators
  • Do Not share Mascara
  • Sharpen pencils between each use
  • Wash brushes often

Happy Tackling!
